Found an unusual Helje B K 42...

Well, I did get lucky once more. Woohooo. This is rather unusual Helje (I think), it´s marked with "B K" instead of the usual "M K". I _think_ it´s for another market than Sweden, other than the marking it looks like a Helje M K 42 to me. And get this: it was shave ready. I didn´t see that one coming. I did as I usually do with a new find, tried it on the arm and the hair just melted away without any pulling what so ever :dropjaw:, I stropped it and tried the HHT ... popped the hair without any violin playing, just one short stroke in one direction and it broke into two pieces :D

Interesting Helje you've got there. I've never seen the BK marque and I wonder what the significance is. Looks like the genuine ivory scales too. You're a lucky man. :tu

Thank you! I feel lucky today (again:) ). It´s ivory scales :D, they´re a little thin but in good nick and the blade even centers and is snug in shaving position. Happy happy!!!

What size is the blade? It looks lager than the average Heljestrand...

Nope it´s a 6/8, like the M K 42. Maybe a hair wider, but it fits nicely in at 12/16 inches.

I about had a fit when I saw the title of your post! :dropjaw: I have that same razor, but I didn't get as lucky as you did with ivory scales. Congratulations on your good fortune! :beer1:

I'd been working on the speculation that this razor was affiliated with the M(agnus). Kindal shop on 33 Avenue de l'Opéra in Paris. I wrote a letter to the Kindal website (www.kindal.fr) asking about the razor, but I haven't received a reply.

I presumed that "B." was another Kindal with another shop somewhere, but I don't know yet.

Please let me know if you find out any more, and I'll let you know if I get any results from my digging. Enjoy your razor - I'm enjoying mine :D

Here I thought I was special :rofl2:. I was thinking France also, since Helje used to export a lot of razors to them and had good relations in general with France... I´ll let you know if I find anything, I´ve asked a specialist for help. If he can´t help, I´m afraid we´re on our own on this one. But I think you´re prob. close. :beer1:

Otto: let me refrase that: most of my Heljes are smaller, but it seems like most here have 6/8 or larger though - lucky bastards :tu

I agree the stamp is very clean and deep. The pictures I show don't show it well enough, but in hand, it's pretty clear that my scales are the yellowish plastic imitation ivory variety.

I just buffed my blade out a little bit with some Mother's Aluminum polish. It looked similar to yours when I got it from ebay. The best part is the shave is sweeeeet! :D

By the way, I think there is yet another SRP-er out there with a BK blade. I think he posted it in the shave of the day forum some time ago. Maybe he'll see this thread too! :)

Yeah, we can start a club of our own, the B K Helje club :rofl2:

I haven´t done anything, well I just cleaned her up a little and used Baliistol for it, but that was after the pics where taken. I´ll use her tomorrow and post in SOTD (even though the pic I took tonight was crap.

I got an answear from the guy I asked and he said he has only seen it on french market Heljes, but then with some kind of "made in France" but in the french. So, the hunt for an answear keeps on ...
